Johannes Grenzfurthner (Austrian German: [joˈhanɛs ˈɡrɛntsfʊrtnɐ]; born 1975 in Vienna) is an Austrian artist, filmmaker, writer, actor, curator, theatre director, performer and lecturer. He is the founder, conceiver and artistic director of monochrom, an international art and theory group and film production company. Most of his artworks are produced under, or associated with, the monochrom label. Grenzfurthner’s work frequently engages with underground culture, hacker culture, sexuality and technology, media theory, and the political implications of technological systems. He founded the concept of "techno-hedonism" and established the concept of "context hacking". He has also written on art, film, and technology, including the manifesto "Manifesto of Reality: Cinema After the Physical Trace". In accounts of his work, Grenzfurthner has often been characterized through his relationship to nerd, hacker, and off-scene cultures.
