A digital, color image by D. Michael Cheers captures the ceremonial procession of Josephine Baker’s induction into France’s Pantheon mausoleum. Six French military officers carry Josephine Baker’s ceremonial cenotaph down a red carpet. The cenotaph is draped with a French flag. The red carpet is flanked by platforms with printed black-and-white and color images of Baker. The procession is led by a seventh French military officer, who stands in front of them. An eighth military officer follows the procession carrying a shadowbox display case holding Baker’s military medals. Ahead of the procession is the staircase to enter the mausoleum, visibly flanked by eight French military officers on the left and eight on the right.
