This violin is a patent model that was made by Jacob Lenhard of New York, New York in 1869. The violin received U.S. patent number 91,029 on June 8, 1869. The patent relates to improving the manner of securing the bridge to a violin. The bridge is supported at one end by the soundpost, which is brought directly under the end of the bridge while the other end of the bridge stands on the sounding board. The sounding board can thus vibrate up and down without being strained by the bridge, resulting in great volume and sound.
