The object in the museum catalogue
A black-and-white gelatin silver photograph of Terri Lyne Carrington examining a set of cymbals.
In a large bright room decorated with large tropical plants, large glass windows and long blinds, an adolescent Terri Lyne Carrington closely examines a set of brass cymbals. The cymbal sets are staged in the middle of the floor space atop an ornate floor design. Carrington is dressed in a bright beanie, shearling accented coat, and trousers. She leans to her proper right as her proper left hand touches the larger cymbal on the percussion set she is studying.
On the white reverse of the photograph is an inscription in turquoise felt tip pen near the top, is: [Terri Carrington / Ebony 4-77 not used]. A blue ink stamp identifying the photographer, G. Marshall Wilson, is marked in the middle.
