This hat was made for Duke-Rigs Men's Shop in New York, New York, 1950s. It is a pork pie style hat made of black felt with a round flat, creased crown, black grosgrain ribbon and bow, and a large brim. The bow features a small button with an attached string for use in windy weather. The string would be attached to the lapel of a jacket to keep the hat from blowing away.
This hat was previously owned and used by American jazz tenor saxophone and clarinet player Lester Young (1909-1959).
