Edward Everett Horton, W. Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. The Chase and Sanborn Hour (part 1) (NBC Radio Broadcast. International Artists, Inc.). One-sided 12" audio transcription disc.
The Chase and Sanborn Hour was a series of American comedy and variety radio shows sponsored by Standard Brands' Chase and Sanborn Coffee, mostly airing Sundays on NBC Radio Network from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. from 1929 to 1948.
Edward Everett Horton Jr. (1886-1970) was an American character actor. Horton had over a six-decade career in film, theater, radio, television, and voice work for animated cartoons.
First heard in May 1937, on NBC's Chase and Sanborn Hour, Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy were sponsored by that coffee brand until 1949, when they moved to CBS and picked up Coca-Cola as the primary sponsor. An often-asked question about the show was "how could a ventriloquist be so popular on the radio?" In addition to Charlie McCarthy, Mr. Bergen was the voice for Mortimer Snerd and Effie Klinker.
