Hans-Adam II (Johannes Adam Ferdinand Alois Josef Maria Marco d'Aviano Pius; born 14 February 1945) is the Prince of Liechtenstein, reigning since 1989. As a member of the Liechtenstein princely family, he also holds the title of Duke of Troppau and Jägerndorf and Count of Rietberg. The eldest child of Prince Franz Joseph II and Countess Georgina von Wilczek, Hans-Adam was educated at Schottengymnasium in Austria and in Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz in Switzerland. He then worked as a bank trainee in London before enrolling at the University of St. Gallen to study business administration, where Hans-Adam graduated with a licentiate in 1969. In 1984, Prince Franz Joseph handed over power and everyday duties of the monarch to Hans-Adam, with Hans-Adam thus becoming regent, while his father the nominal monarch. Following his father's death in 1989, Hans-Adam officially ascended to the throne.
