[Archive 2016-05-06] FIFA ethics committee recommends lifetime ban of former FIFA vice-president

The adjudicatory chamber of FIFA (International Federation of Association Football)'s independent ethics committee has opened up proceedings against former FIFA Vice-President Jeffrey Webb. In a statement released on Wednesday the ethics committee recommended Mr Webb receive a lifelong ban from all footballing activities for multiple violations of the articles of the FIFA Code of Ethics.

Mr Webb was indicted on corruption charges by the United States Department of Justice, and pled guilty in November to one count of racketeering conspiracy, three counts of wire fraud conspiracy and three of money laundering conspiracy.

He is the former President of CONCACAF, the confederation for North America, Central America and Caribbean footballing associations, Vice-President of FIFA, and President of the Cayman Islands Football Association.

Mr Webb is to be given the opportunity to submit his position before a ruling by FIFA is handed down.
