Вторая мировая. Великая Отечественная: Story, Cast and Series Facts

Story and premise

Many people believe that after so many years, there are simply no more gaps in the history of the greatest and most tragic war. But is that really the case? The more historians study the events of World War II, the clearer it becomes: we know very little not only about yesterday's enemies, but also about former allies.

Who planned to deliver a crushing blow to the Soviet Union's rear, defeating Red Army units in Europe immediately after Germany signed the surrender? Did British intelligence really save the Reich's "grey cardinal," Martin Bormann, from death in Berlin? How did a weapon of mass destruction become a weapon of mass deception? Why did the Germans so easily break through the "impregnable" fortifications on the western border of the USSR in the summer of 1941? What was the purpose of the NKVD's re‑investigation into the circumstances surrounding Hitler's disappearance? What is true in this story, and what is just a myth?

In search of answers to these and other questions, the creators of the documentary series "World War II. "The Great Patriotic War" visited countries that fought for the future of Europe and the world in the 1940s. Several film crews worked in parallel on three continents. In addition to Russia, the project's authors travelled to Germany, France, Italy, Georgia, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, the USA, Canada, and Argentina. During their trips, they managed to obtain a number of unique testimonies and documents.
