Story and premise

Lu Nanyi, the daughter of a wealthy merchant in the capital, and Lin Qingqiu, the son of a distinguished family, grew up as childhood sweethearts despite their different social statuses, and their affection deepened over time. Ten years later, however, Lin Qingqiu was betrothed to someone else by his parents' arrangement, despite being in love with Lu Nanyi. The two planned to elope on the day of Lin Qingqiu's wedding, but they were tricked, and each received a farewell letter, leading them to mistakenly believe the other had abandoned them. Thus, they parted ways. A year later, Lin Qingqiu in pursuit of his lost love became the magistrate of Jinzhou County while Lu Nanyi became a famous storywriter. A shocking murder case in Jinzhou matched the plot in Lu Nanyi's stories, casting her under suspicion. As Lin Qingqiu took charge of the investigation, the former childhood sweethearts were reunited. Their old flame rekindled amidst the simmering tension as they "avenged" their past heartbreaks. But who is the real killer? Can their broken relationship be mended?
