He played club football for Berekum Arsenal, Liberty Professionals, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Tel Aviv, West Ham United, Fulham, Leicester City, Santos and Maritzburg United as well as internationally for Ghana. His family name is Paintsil but at birth it was registered as Pantsil in error. This then subsequently appeared on his passport and his registration with the Premier League.
