The object in the museum catalogue
Poster for the movie Buffalo Bill in Three Reels. The poster depicts, in color, William Cody on horseback atop a rock formation, with several Native Americans gathered below him. The poster is an advertisement for the first film biography of Cody produced by his company in 1912. Running three reels, or about 45 minutes long, this was an epic biopic by the standard of the time, though it was not commercially or critically successful. Several scenes were later borrowed and improved upon by Thomas Ince, a founder of the western film genre.
