Friedrich Carl von Savigny (21 February 1779 – 25 October 1861) was a German jurist and legal historian. He served as professor of jurisprudence and was rector of the University of Berlin in 1812–1813. Savigny was also a member of the Prussian State Council and, from 1842 to 1848, Minister of State for Legal Reform (Staatsminister für Gesetzesrevision). He is regarded, along with Gustav Hugo, as a co-founder of the German historical school of jurisprudence.
