The story centers on a group of four Boy Scouts—George Benton, Charley ("Sandy") Green, Tommy Gregory, and Will Smith—who arrive at the Labyrinth mine to assist in searching for two missing boys, Jimmie Maynard and Dick Thompson. As they delve into the treacherous environment of the coal mine, the Scouts encounter mysterious lights and strange noises that suggest they are not alone.
