Black Canary is a DC Comics comic book character, the alter ego of Dinah Lance, with over 3,540 comic issue appearances. Dinah Lance was born into a family of crime fighters; her mother was a vigilante and her father is a cop. She grew up with the company of heroes, and after years of training, followed in her parent's footsteps by assuming the costume, identity, and legacy of her mother Dinah Drake, the Black Canary.

Origin Dinah Laurel Lance is the daughter of the original Black Canary, Dinah Drake , and police officer Larry Lance . Born a Metahuman , Dinah has the ability of her "Canary Cry". At the age of nineteen, Dinah decided to take on her mother's mantle and began to be trained by Wildcat (who previously worked with her mother). Despite the concerns of her mother, Dinah became the Black Canary and started her own crime-fighting career. Creation Black Canary Dinah Laurel Lance was created by Dick Dillin and Dennis O'Neil . However, much of her design and characterization came from Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino who created her mother, the original Black Canary.
