Darkstar (Petrovna) is a Marvel comic book character, the alter ego of Laynia Sergeievna Petrovna, with over 353 comic issue appearances. Vanguard's fraternal twin sister. The first Darkstar, Laynia Petrovna is a mutant capable of manipulating an immeasurable amount of darkforce energy. She lived and died in service to her mother country Russia, but was later resurrected in the body of the previous Darkstar, Reena Stancioff, when Reena was transformed into a Dire Wraith.

Who is Darkstar (Petrovna)?

Origin Darkstar Darkstar, commonly known as Laynia Petrovna, was born in Belarus, Russian and is the daughter of a nuclear physicist Sergei Krylov and his wife, who were accidentally irradiated during an experiment. When her mother died during childbirth, Laynia’s father was told that she and her twin brother had died as well. The mutant infants were then taken into custody by the state and, when their superhuman abilities first manifested in adolescence, were turned over to Professor Piotr Phobos, head of a government-run school for training Russian mutants. After being given the codename Darkstar because of her mutant ability to manipulate the extra dimensional energy known as the Darkforce , Petrovna studied at the academy alongside her brother Nikolai, codenamed Vanguard , and trained to become a government agent.
