Who is Gary Saunders?
Gary Saunders was a convicted murderer of twelve young women and a suspect in as many as thirty-five other cases. Conchita Ortiz suspected Saunders as being responsible for the disappearance of her cousin, Rita. He majored in Law at the University of Washington but was expelled. He also has a penchant for chess. By the time he was captured, Saunders had left a trail of murder and rape across the United States. When the Punisher hears that he is planning escaping from prison with the help of Charles Samson's Underground Liberation Army, he decides to break him out himself. The Punisher rescues him by helicopter under the pretense of having been sent by the ULA, but when the helicopter lands, Saunders blindsides Castle with a two-by-four because he didn't give the password. The Underground Liberation Army arrive on the scene, making clear that the helicopter is more valuable to them than Saunders as they plan to use it to liberate Charles Samson from captivity.
