Major Story Arcs The Devil's Apprentice John Crow is the son-in-law of Lydia Garcia . He is a great warrior, perhaps one of the greatest of his age. As the leader of the Crow Grendel clan, it was his right, using the technology of the age, to become pregnant. When he is almost ready to give birth, vampires attack. They kill almost all his clan, and mortally wound him. Knowing he is about to die, he asks Lydia to cut the baby out of him before he turns into a vampire. She agrees, and does so. The baby has red eyes like a vampire, but is otherwise human.
