Major Story Arcs The legendary Monkey Joe first graced comics alongside Squirrel Girl in Marvel Super-Heroes #8: Winter Special (dated January 1992). Leather Boy, an ex-GLA member bitter at the team's decision to reject him due to his lack of powers, murdered Monkey Joe violently while dressed up in a leather Doctor Doom outfit in Great Lakes Avengers #3 (dated August 2005). When Doorman briefly visited the after-life, Monkey Joe was seen playing cards with the rest of the fallen Great Lakes Initiative members. The superhero rodent seemed very bitter about his untimely demise and even less forgiving than the other deceased members.
