Origin Roger Brandt, a physically challenged veteran and artist, is imbued with the mystical Well of Souls. As a result he has premonitions when ever someone is going to commit murder. He then lays down in a trance to allow the spiritual form of the entity known as The Shade to leave his physical body via ectoplasm . While in this state, the Shade is capable of many things, including flight, phasing, magic, and telepathy. He has fought along side Nightveil and the FemForce a number of times.
