Who Is Sinestro? Origin, Powers and Key Facts

Sinestro is a DC Comics comic book character, the alter ego of Thaal Sinestro, with over 1,340 comic issue appearances. Once considered the greatest Green Lantern in any sector, Sinestro came to believe that the only way to ensure order in the universe was through the reign of fear, a crime for which the Guardians banished him to Qward. There he created the first yellow power ring and later on founded his own corps, The Sinestro Corps. He has clashed frequently with his former student and protege; Hal Jordan. The relationship between the two is a complicated one, a mixture of both hatred and respect in equal measures.

Who is Sinestro?

Origin Thaal Sinestro, originally an anthropologist from the planet Korugar , had a natural affinity for order as displayed by his meticulous reconstructions of ancient ruins. It was at one of these reconstructions that a wounded Green Lantern , Prohl Gosgotha , crash landed. He gave his ring to Sinestro who barely defeated the lantern's pursuer, a Weaponer of Qward , at the cost of the very ruins he had restored. When Gosgotha requested his ring back after the battle so that it might keep him alive Sinestro instead allowed him to die and took his place. The Guardians , unaware of his actions, allowed Sinestro to become the Green Lantern for sector 1417. Creation Sinestro was created by John Broome and Gil Kane as an enemy of Hal Jordan and the entire Green Lantern Corps . He first appeared in August 1963 in the comic Green Lantern #7. Character Evolution Silver & Bronze Age Sinestro was the finest officer in the Green Lantern Corps.
