The specifics of Watchfire's past are unknown, but all member of Brute Force shared some similarities. Wacthfire came from an unknown small town which was financially troubled or disenfranchised. He probably encountered the Imperial Forces of America at a rally. The Imperial Forces of America is really the Secret Empire using the name as a public rally group to recruit members from America's working class in poor areas. Watchfire was then tested for genetic markers which would make him susceptible to Arnim Zola's treatments to grant superpowers. Along with the other members of Brute Force, Watchfire fought the Thunderbolts when they invaded a Secret Empire base. They later fought the Thunderbolts in a gladiator-style arena.
