Virgin with a Crown of Stars (1527) is in the Cleveland Museum of Art collection. The museum's creator attribution is Monogrammist HF (German, active about 1527).

The work and its context

The museum's open-access catalogue describes the work:

This work is a composite copy or interpretation—a work that draws from several different Virgin Mary and Christ child scenes by Albrecht Dürer, including his Virgin and Child with the Pear, to create a new composition. Monogrammist HF made the engraving around the time of Dürer’s death, capitalizing on the continued popularity of Dürer’s small devotional works. Despite the composition’s strong reliance on Dürer, the engraver claimed it as his own by signing the plate with his monogram.
