Waterfront (c. 1923) is in the Cleveland Museum of Art collection. The museum's creator attribution is Frank Wilcox (American, 1887–1964).

The work and its context

The museum's open-access catalogue describes the work:

Based on the English lettering on the warehouse in the middle of this image, Frank Wilcox likely depicted a boat house in his native Cleveland. The composition is evenly balanced, with the rigging of a ship bordering the left and the wooden boards of the dock structure on the right. About half of the image is devoted to a blank sky, which lightens the otherwise dark scene and suggests calm weather for the figures in boats.
