Lamentation over the Body of Christ (late 1500s–early 1600s) is in the Cleveland Museum of Art collection. The museum's creator attribution is Giuseppe Scolari (Italian).

The work and its context

The museum's open-access catalogue describes the work:

Venice was an important center for the production of woodcuts during the 1500s. Titian (1488-1576), the celebrated Venetian painter, exerted tremendous influence on the graphic arts. His vibrant, monumental woodcut designs inspired generations of artists, including Giuseppe Scolari, who is known today only through a handful of woodcuts. The dramatic composition and the bold linear treatment are characteristic of Scolari's style.
